Finding a rare Pokémon usually involves patience, preparation and an uncomfortable amount of staring at the same patch of grass.

This time, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet players are getting a break.

A limited-time Mass Outbreak event has made Feebas and White-Striped Basculin much easier to encounter in Kitakami. Both Pokémon can normally be awkward to track down, especially for players looking for shiny versions, special Marks or the right combination of both.

The event runs until August 6, 2026, so there is still time to hunt. Not forever, though.

Rare Feebas and White-Striped Basculin Outbreaks Are Appearing in Kitakami

During the event, special Mass Outbreaks featuring Feebas and White-Striped Basculin will appear across Kitakami.

That matters because neither Pokémon is particularly convenient to hunt under normal conditions. White-Striped Basculin appears in a limited part of the map near the Timeless Woods, while Feebas has long carried a reputation for being annoying to find across several Pokémon games.

Players may sometimes spend days changing their Nintendo Switch date while hoping for the right outbreak. Now, both species receive guaranteed event outbreaks that refresh each day.

The catch is fairly obvious: players need access to The Teal Mask DLC and the Kitakami region. Anyone playing only the base game will not be able to reach these particular outbreaks.

Shiny Hunters Have a Much Better Opportunity

The outbreaks are useful even for players who simply need Feebas or White-Striped Basculin for their collection.

For shiny hunters, they are considerably more interesting.

Mass Outbreaks allow players to encounter large numbers of the same Pokémon in one place. Defeating or catching Pokémon from an outbreak, using the Shiny Charm and preparing sandwiches with Sparkling Power can push the odds further in the player’s favour.

Nothing guarantees a shiny. Pokémon rarely makes things that generous.

Still, repeatedly spawning Feebas or White-Striped Basculin is far more efficient than searching their usual habitats and hoping one appears. This may be one of the better chances Scarlet and Violet players get to catch shiny versions before the event cycle moves on.

Feebas Can Appear With the Prideful Mark

Event Feebas have an increased chance of appearing with the Prideful Mark.

A Feebas carrying the Mark receives the battle title “Feebas the Arrogant.” The title remains relevant after evolution, meaning players can eventually send out a Milotic with the same unusual introduction.

Marks do not improve a Pokémon’s stats. They are mostly collector items that add personality and rarity to a catch.

That has not stopped players from chasing them.

A shiny Feebas with the Prideful Mark would be a particularly difficult combination to find during ordinary gameplay. The current outbreak does not make that result easy, exactly. It simply makes it realistic enough to attempt without losing an entire month.

White-Striped Basculin Can Carry the Ferocious Mark

White-Striped Basculin receives its own featured Mark during the event.

The Pokémon has an increased chance of carrying the Ferocious Mark, which gives it the title “Basculin the Rampaging.”

That title feels unusually appropriate.

White-Striped Basculin can evolve into Basculegion, a Pokémon first introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. To trigger the evolution in Scarlet and Violet, Basculin must take at least 294 points of recoil damage without fainting before it levels up.

Moves such as Wave Crash can help build the required recoil damage. Players should keep healing items nearby, since allowing Basculin to knock itself out will not help the process.

Feebas Still Needs a Trade to Become Milotic

Catching Feebas is only the first half of the job.

To evolve it into Milotic in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, players must give Feebas a Prism Scale and trade it to another player. Once the trade goes through, the evolution begins.

Anyone attempting this with a shiny or specially marked Feebas should trade with someone they trust. Random trades are not the place for optimism.

Milotic remains a desirable Pokémon for collectors and competitive players. Its Competitive ability can punish opponents that lower its stats, making it particularly useful against Pokémon with Intimidate.

The Wider Water-Type Event Includes More Pokémon

Feebas and White-Striped Basculin are only part of the seasonal event.

Psyduck and Slowpoke outbreaks are appearing in Paldea, while Lapras outbreaks are available inside the Terarium at Blueberry Academy. Each featured Pokémon has a higher chance of appearing with a particular Mark.

Psyduck can carry the Absent-Minded Mark, Slowpoke may have the Zoned-Out Mark and Lapras can appear with the Intellectual Mark.

Elsewhere, Scarlet and Violet players can challenge a seven-star Dragon-Tera Magikarp carrying the Mightiest Mark. It sounds like a joke encounter. The seven-star difficulty suggests otherwise.

How to Join the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Event

Players should connect their Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and download the latest Poké Portal News.

Open the main menu, select Poké Portal, choose Mystery Gift, and then select Check Poké Portal News. A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is not normally required to receive event data.

Once the update has been downloaded, special outbreak icons should appear on the appropriate maps. Feebas and White-Striped Basculin will appear in Kitakami, so The Teal Mask DLC must already be installed and accessible.

Players who download the event data before it ends may be able to keep the outbreaks active by avoiding another internet connection after August 6. Connecting online later will refresh the game’s event data and remove the expired outbreaks.

When Does the Feebas and Basculin Event End?

The Water-type Mass Outbreak event began on July 17, 2026, at 00:00 UTC and ends on August 6, 2026, at 23:59 UTC.

That gives players roughly three weeks to search for shiny Pokémon, special Marks or both.

For collectors, this is one of those events worth using while it is available. Feebas and White-Striped Basculin are possible to obtain outside the event, but “possible” and “pleasant” are not the same thing.

The outbreaks remove much of the usual setup. What remains is luck, sandwiches and probably several boxes filled with fish.
