Pokémon fans have another reason to dig out that Pikachu shirt.
Krispy Kreme is celebrating Pokémon’s 30th anniversary with a limited-time collaboration, and one part of the promotion is surprisingly simple: show up wearing Pokémon gear and get a free doughnut.
No complicated quest. No Pokédex completion requirement. Just Pokémon clothing and a trip to a participating Krispy Kreme.
Wear Pokémon Gear on August 22 for a Free Doughnut
On Saturday, August 22, 2026, fans who visit participating Krispy Kreme shops while wearing Pokémon-themed attire can receive one free Original Glazed doughnut.
The promotion is limited to one doughnut per guest and is available through participating shops, including in-shop and drive-thru visits.
So yes, apparently that old Pikachu T-shirt sitting in the back of the closet finally has a practical use.
The giveaway is tied to Krispy Kreme’s larger Pokémon collaboration celebrating three decades of the franchise. Pokémon originally launched in Japan in 1996, making 2026 its 30th anniversary year.
Krispy Kreme Has an Entire Pokémon Doughnut Collection
The free Original Glazed isn’t the only thing happening.
Starting August 18, Krispy Kreme is rolling out a limited-time Pokémon Doughnut Collection featuring six designs inspired by some very familiar faces.
Pikachu, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Jigglypuff are all represented, alongside a Poké Ball-themed doughnut.
And Krispy Kreme didn’t simply slap different colored icing onto the same doughnut and call it a day.
The designs have their own flavors and fillings. Pikachu, for example, comes with lemon-flavored Kreme, while the Squirtle-inspired doughnut uses blue cotton candy buttercreme. The full collection can be purchased individually or as part of Pokémon-themed assortments.
People’s coverage of the collection includes more details on the six themed doughnuts.
Pokémon Collectors Might Want the Packaging Too
This promotion knows exactly what Pokémon fans are like.
There are collectibles.
Krispy Kreme is also offering special Pokémon packaging and limited-edition cups featuring Pokémon designs. The collectible cups come filled with 10 Original Glazed Gold Dots, giving fans something they can keep after the actual doughnuts have disappeared.
The Pokémon Dozen also comes in special-edition packaging.
Which probably means a few boxes are going to survive untouched in someone’s collection instead of immediately heading for the recycling bin.
Honestly, Pokémon fans have preserved stranger things.
The Pokémon Doughnuts Are Only Around for a Limited Time
Krispy Kreme’s Pokémon collection launched in the U.S. on August 18 and is being sold for a limited time at participating locations.
Some versions of the assortment are also expected at select retail locations, although availability can vary. The main Krispy Kreme shops offer the wider collection, including the full Pokémon Dozen.
Anyone specifically chasing the Pokémon Krispy Kreme free doughnut, though, should remember the important date: August 22.
Wear Pokémon attire. Visit a participating Krispy Kreme. Get an Original Glazed.
Sometimes gaming promotions really don’t need to be more complicated than that.
Pokémon’s 30th Anniversary Keeps Getting Bigger
The Krispy Kreme collaboration is another piece of Pokémon’s huge 30th anniversary year.
Thirty years after Pokémon Red and Green first arrived in Japan, Pikachu and company are still showing up everywhere from games and collectibles to food collaborations.
A free doughnut isn’t exactly a legendary encounter.
But for anyone already planning to grab the Pokémon-themed collection, getting an extra Original Glazed simply for wearing Pokémon merch isn’t a bad side quest.
