A new Zelda Switch 2 Edition appears to have slipped out ahead of Nintendo’s official announcement, and this one looks much bigger than a simple controller repaint.
Images circulating online reportedly show a limited-edition Nintendo Switch 2 created to celebrate The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary, complete with a redesigned dock, custom Joy-Con controllers, and anniversary branding. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed the hardware yet, so there’s still a giant rumor label hanging over all of this. The pictures, though, are detailed enough to get Zelda collectors nervous about their wallets.
Zelda Switch 2 Edition Leak Shows a Full Anniversary Design
The leaked console apparently goes with a darker look than some of Nintendo’s previous Zelda hardware. Reports describing the images point to a black-and-brown dock decorated with gold Zelda detailing, including the unmistakable Triforce symbol. The Joy-Con controllers reportedly bring green and gold into the design, giving the system something that feels unmistakably Zelda without simply covering every available surface with artwork.
That distinction matters. Nintendo has released plenty of themed hardware over the years, but the better designs usually stop before becoming too busy. From what has leaked so far, this Zelda Switch 2 seems closer to a collector’s piece than a loud promotional bundle.
The packaging is also said to feature 40th anniversary branding, suggesting the console celebrates Zelda as a franchise rather than being dedicated completely to one particular game.
A Matching Zelda Switch 2 Pro Controller Has Apparently Leaked Too
The console isn’t the only piece of hardware making the rounds. A matching Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller has also appeared in leaked images.
Earlier reports described the controller as having green accents around the grips, gold detailing, and a Triforce placed prominently near the center. More recent images seem to line up with those descriptions, which gives the original rumors a little more weight.
It would make sense for Nintendo to sell the controller separately. The company did something similar during the original Switch generation, releasing special Zelda accessories even when buyers weren’t purchasing a completely new console.
There could even be another Zelda-related product waiting in the wings. Additional leaked packaging images reportedly show a third Nintendo item intentionally hidden from view, although there isn’t enough reliable information yet to say what it actually is.
The Timing Around Ocarina of Time Is Hard to Ignore
There’s an obvious game sitting in the middle of all this: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Nintendo officially revealed a new version of the Nintendo 64 classic for Nintendo Switch 2 during its June 2026 Nintendo Direct. Nintendo says the game is coming in 2026 and describes it as a return of the classic adventure for a new generation.
Naturally, that has led to speculation that the anniversary console and Ocarina of Time could arrive around the same period.
That’s still speculation.
Earlier rumors suggested Nintendo was preparing an Ocarina of Time-themed Switch 2. Later information changed the story slightly, with insiders claiming that both the console and Pro Controller are actually designed around Zelda’s 40th anniversary, rather than Ocarina specifically.
Nintendo could still launch them together. The branding just might not be as closely connected as people originally thought.
Nintendo Has Plenty of History With Zelda Hardware
A Zelda-themed console wouldn’t exactly come out of nowhere.
Nintendo released a special Nintendo Switch OLED Model – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition in 2023, complete with a Hylian Crest on the dock and extensive gold detailing across the system. Nintendo also released a matching Pro Controller and carrying case separately.
The company has used Zelda to sell special hardware across several generations, which makes a Switch 2 anniversary edition pretty believable.
There’s another reason this particular release would stand out: it could become the first major limited-edition Nintendo Switch 2 design. That alone would probably make it attractive to collectors who already bought the standard system.
Yes, Nintendo potentially convincing Zelda fans to buy another Switch because somebody put a gold Triforce on it is extremely Nintendo.
And it will probably work.
Nintendo Still Hasn’t Announced the Zelda Switch 2 Edition
Despite increasingly convincing leaks, Nintendo has not officially announced a Zelda Switch 2 Edition at the time of writing.
There is no confirmed release date, official price, final hardware bundle, or confirmation that Ocarina of Time will be included with the console. Claims about those details should be treated as rumors until Nintendo says otherwise.
What isn’t a rumor is Nintendo’s renewed Zelda push on Switch 2. Both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom already have Nintendo Switch 2 Editions featuring higher-resolution visuals, improved frame rates, faster loading, HDR support, and other enhancements.
Ocarina of Time is now officially headed to the system as well.
Put all of that alongside Zelda’s 40th anniversary and suddenly a special console doesn’t sound particularly far-fetched.
Zelda Fans May Want to Keep an Eye on Nintendo’s Next Announcement
Leaks can disappear just as quickly as they show up, and Nintendo has surprised fans before by changing plans or simply letting rumored products never materialize.
Still, this particular Zelda Switch 2 rumor isn’t surviving on one vague social media post anymore. Multiple reports have now pointed toward anniversary hardware, leaked packaging has surfaced, and details from separate sources appear to overlap.
If Nintendo confirms it, the Zelda Switch 2 Edition has all the ingredients of a console that sells out quickly: Zelda branding, anniversary status, distinctive hardware, and a new Ocarina of Time release somewhere on the horizon.
The standard Switch 2 suddenly looks a little less tempting.
